What is not included and the pitfalls

  • The ABC ticket: Oranienburg is in zone C. On the cheapest tours the train ticket is extra; our memorial page gives €5 for a single and €12.90 for the 24-hour ticket (October 2026). Add it to compare fairly.
  • Entry is free: the memorial charges no admission; guided tours include a €3 donation or fee in several listings. A free public tour runs on Saturdays according to our page, registration on site.
  • A place of remembrance: dress and behave respectfully. The memorial considers the exhibitions unsuitable for children under 12 and recommends the guided tour from age 14 (see our page).
  • Walking and weather: most of the site is outdoors; wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothes. The listings we read list wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments as not suited to these tours.
  • Food: no shop on site; bring a snack and water.
  • Hours and closures: season hours are published by the memorial on sachsenhausen-sbg.de. The memorial's site also announces that from 22 September 2026 tour buses use a new parking area on Carl-Gustav-Hempel-Straße; your guide will explain the drop-off.
  • Context: for the wider history, see Berlin and the Second World War and the Topography of Terror.
