The short answer
- Train: the RE3 from Berlin to Angermünde, then a replacement bus to Szczecin Główny (the RE66/RB66 train is suspended until further notice).
- Replacement bus: one every 2 hours; in one of the two hours it is a non-stop express, in the other it serves all stations.
- Duration: about 2 hours according to comparison sites, before the works; the current journey may be longer.
- Car: about 1h45 to 2h (estimate, 130 to 150 km).
Comparing the options
| Mode | Duration | Price seen | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| RE3 train then replacement bus | about 2 h or more | fare to confirm on bahn.de | change at Angermünde; bus every 2 hours |
| Coach (Flixbus or other) | to confirm | to confirm | comparison sites list coaches, to check |
| Car | about 1h45 to 2h (estimate) | fuel and any fees | Schengen border, no systematic checks |
We could not confirm a current fare for the train and bus: an undated article mentions about €40 in second class from Berlin's airports, and a reduced fare with the Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket, whose validity on the Polish stretch is not confirmed. Check before buying.
The works and the connection
The Berlin-Brandenburg transport authority (VBB) page says the RE66 and RB66 lines are out of service between Angermünde and Szczecin Główny, replaced by buses; both lines have direct connections at Angermünde, notably the RE3 to and from Berlin. No timetable is given on that page: check the DB Regio site and works notices before you leave. To see how regional tickets work, read AB, ABC and Deutschlandticket tickets.
What to do in Szczecin
Szczecin can be seen in a day: old town, Oder riverbank and shopping centres. The currency is the zloty; pay by card where possible and check rates before exchanging cash. For other escapes from Berlin, see excursions from Berlin and Berlin to Krakow.
