Half or full marathon?
The half marathon runs in spring, the marathon at the end of September. For a first running trip to Berlin, the half is less demanding and leaves time to sightsee. Our guide to the Berlin marathon covers the other race.
Planning the weekend
- Book early: hotels near the centre fill up for the race; see where to stay in where to stay in Berlin and in the Mitte guide.
- Transport: the day before, plan your route to the start; the Berlin transport guide explains the tickets.
- After the race: the Brandenburg Gate and the Tiergarten are close by for an easy walk.
- Weather: in early April Berlin is cool; see Berlin in spring.
An activity to go with the race
For runners and companions, a visit to the Olympic Stadium, Berlin's great sports site, is the best outing of the weekend.
