Deutsche Oper Berlin: tickets, prices, tours and tips (2026-2027)

Updated on October 25, 2026

The Deutsche Oper Berlin is the capital's biggest opera house, in Charlottenburg west of the centre: a modernist building from 1961 that stages opera and ballet on most evenings of the season. Seats cost from about €14 to €120 depending on category (range seen in October 2026); the cheapest sell out fast, but returns are sometimes offered at the box office an hour before curtain. The repertoire is broader here, and seats easier to find, than at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Mitte. Prices and dates below come from online sources seen in October 2026; the official site (deutscheoperberlin.de) remains the reference when you book.

Highlights

The Kaiserdamm front

The Kaiserdamm front

A very plain modernist facade in concrete and stone, designed by Fritz Bornemann and opened in 1961 with "Don Giovanni". It replaced the old Charlottenburg opera house, destroyed in the war.

The auditorium

The auditorium

Nearly 1,900 seats in a tiered hall without decorated boxes, built so that sight and sound are good almost everywhere. That is one of the house's strengths: even cheap seats are rarely bad.

The guided tours

The opera runs backstage tours and family tours, listed on berlin.de from 18 April to 12 July 2026 (slots at 1pm and 2:30pm on some weekends); the 2026-2027 tour programme was not yet published when we looked.

The Deutsche Oper Card

A season card at €85 (2026-2027) giving 30% off up to two seats per performance in price categories A to D: it pays for itself if you come three or four times, less so on a single trip.

The repertoire

On resellers, September 2026 evenings such as "The Magic Flute" or "Tosca" appear between €49 and €60; at the box office itself the starting prices are lower.

Practical info

Tips

  • Book online on the official site rather than through a reseller: seats are cheaper there. On a small budget, try the lowest categories, or the box office an hour before curtain for returns (tip from Time Out). Operas are often surtitled in German and English: check the language for your evening. Dress: smart but relaxed, nobody will turn you away in jeans. To compare the other big halls, see our guide to concerts and shows in Berlin, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Philharmonie.

How to get there

Bismarckstraße 35, 10627 Berlin (Charlottenburg). U-Bahn U2, Deutsche Oper station, right at the entrance; Bismarckstraße station (U2 and U7) is a few steps away. From the main station allow 25 to 30 minutes with one change.

Opening hours
