Strandbad Wannsee: swimming in Berlin, prices and how to get there
The Strandbad Wannsee is the largest inland beach resort in Europe, according to the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe, which runs it: a kilometre of sand on the shore of the Großer Wannsee, half an hour by S-Bahn from the centre. People come in summer to swim, sunbathe in a Strandkorb (beach basket) and have a drink by the water. Admission is paid: €6.50 for an adult in 2026. The bathing beach has existed since 1907. The entrance building and the long galleries along the beach date from 1929-1930. Allow half a day, or a full day in fine weather.
Highlights

The beach and the beach baskets
About a kilometre long and 80 metres wide, the sand slopes gently into the lake, which suits families. Strandkörbe (hooded wicker beach chairs typical of German beaches) can be rented on site, and there are volleyball and football pitches. A naturist (FKK) area is set apart.

The entrance building
The brick façade with its large central gable marks the entrance at Wannseebadweg 25. Accessible showers and toilets are available, but reaching the beach involves steps or a steep unpaved path.
Prices
The Berliner Bäder-Betriebe list €6.50 for an adult, €3.80 reduced (children aged 5 to 14, students, apprentices…), €12 for a family ticket for three people (at least one adult and one child), and free entry for children under 5. Official photo ID is required from age 14.
Sauna and sunbathing at the end of the season
After the swimming season ends, the Strandbad stays open for a few weeks for sunbathing and the sauna, without swimming. In 2026 this period ran from 14 September to 4 October.
Practical info
Tips
Not allowed: glass containers, barbecues, water pipes, animals and stand-up paddleboards. In 2026 the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe reported that only cold showers were available. On summer weekends the beach can be packed: arrive early, or come on a weekday. A free alternative is the neighbouring lakes of Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke, described in our guide to the lakes around Berlin. Prices and hours checked in October 2026: check them again before next season on the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe website.
How to get there
Wannseebadweg 25, 14129 Berlin. S-Bahn S1 or S7 to Nikolassee, then about ten minutes on foot; during the summer school holidays bus 312 also serves the site. Paid parking is nearby. To combine the beach with the rest of the lake, see our guide to Wannsee and the House of the Wannsee Conference.
