|---|---|
| Is the Pergamonmuseum open now? | No, closed for renovation |
| Reopening date | 4 June 2027 |
| What returns first | Pergamon Altar hall, Hellenistic hall, Museum of Islamic Art |
| Ticket sales | Not yet announced; check smb.museum from December 2026 |
| Admission price | Not yet published |
| Open today on Museum Island | Neues Museum, Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode-Museum |
What is confirmed, and what is not
The reopening date comes from the museums' own press release. The official group booking channel on shop.smb.museum opened in July 2026 for groups. For individual tickets, the museums have not announced a date or a price; the expected pattern for a very popular museum is timed tickets sold online, so plan to book as soon as sales open rather than counting on the door. We will update this page when the date of sale is published.
Planning a trip in 2027
- June 2027 or later: book your flights and hotel flexibly, then fix the museum day once tickets are on sale.
- First weeks after opening: expect the highest demand. A weekday morning is the calmest time on Museum Island in general.
- Keep a margin: a large reopening can slip; check the SMB site before paying for a non-refundable stay built around it.
What to see on Museum Island today
The Museum Island offers several museums that are open. The Neues Museum holds the bust of Nefertiti, the Altes Museum Greek and Roman antiquities, and the Bode-Museum sculpture and Byzantine art. Our guide to the best museums in Berlin gives opening hours and prices, and Museum Island or Potsdam helps choose a day. A guided tour of the island with entry to the Neues Museum is a good use of a morning; for passes, see Museumspass Berlin.
Who should wait, and who should go now
Go now if you want Egypt, Greek antiquities and Berlin's museum architecture: those museums are open. Wait for 2027 if the Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar Gate are the reason for your trip.
