Mall of Berlin and Potsdamer Platz Arkaden
The Mall of Berlin (Leipziger Platz 12) is the largest shopping centre in the city centre: depending on the guide, 200 to 300 shops, with the main international fashion, electronics and home brands. It adjoins Potsdamer Platz and the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, a smaller centre a short walk away that is mostly used for its restaurants and cinema. You can walk between the two in a few minutes, so one stop covers both. Usual Mall of Berlin hours: Monday to Saturday, roughly 10:00 to 20:00 or 21:00 depending on the source.
Alexa, at Alexanderplatz
The Alexa (Grunerstraße 20) is the eastern centre: about 180 shops on five levels according to the city of Berlin, with a large food court. It is under ten minutes on foot from the TV Tower and Alexanderplatz. Open Monday to Saturday, generally 10:00 to 20:00. It is a handy stop on a rainy day, but the offer is that of any European mall.
Bikini Berlin and KaDeWe: more original shopping
If you want something other than chains, Bikini Berlin (about sixty designer boutiques, rooftop terrace) and the department store KaDeWe (gourmet floor, Mon-Sat 10:00-20:00) are more interesting. Both are in the City West, a few minutes from the Gedächtniskirche.
Designer Outlet Berlin (Wustermark)
The Designer Outlet Berlin (Alter Spandauer Weg 1, Wustermark, in Brandenburg) is the only real outlet in the region: about 100 brand shops according to the operator, open Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 20:00. It lies west of Berlin, outside the city transport zones: plan a regional train and a short onward trip, or a car, and check the route and hours on the centre's website before leaving. Allow half a day including the return trip.
Sunday, tax refund and payment
- Sunday: everything is closed, except the Sundays the city allows shops to open (see shop hours and sales for the 2026 dates and Berlin on Sunday). Restaurants and cinemas in the malls stay open.
- Tax refund: visitors living outside the European Union can reclaim VAT on purchases taken home; ask for the form at the till. Step by step in our shopping in Berlin guide.
- Payment: cards are accepted in the malls; see paying in Berlin.
- Hotel: to stay next door, see hotels near Potsdamer Platz or near Alexanderplatz.
