Boros Collection: contemporary art in a bunker, and how to book a visit

Updated on October 5, 2026

The Boros Collection (Sammlung Boros) shows the contemporary art of Karen and Christian Boros in a former air-raid bunker in Mitte, at Reinhardtstraße 20 (10117 Berlin). The building, about 3,000 m², was converted to house the couple's private collection, which is shown in successive presentations. The current exhibition brings together works by 28 artists from 1990 to today, including Tomma Abts, Ed Atkins, Jill Mulleady, Pol Taburet and Paloma Varga Weisz. You can only visit by booking: the visit is a guided tour of about 1 hour 30 minutes, held several times a week in German and English. Full ticket €20, reduced €12 (students, job seekers, disability pass holders and their companion; ICOM cardholders pay the full price).

Highlights

The bunker itself

The bunker itself

Built for the civilian population during the Second World War, the building with its very thick concrete walls was later used as a storage depot, then as a party venue, before the Boros family bought it. The high-ceilinged rooms and raw corridors are part of the experience: the architecture is "noise-sensitive" and several sound installations are loud.

A renewed presentation

A renewed presentation

The current exhibition mixes painting, sculpture, video and installation by artists of different generations. Each presentation of the collection has a bilingual German and English catalogue, on sale from the collection.

The guided tour

The guide takes the group through every floor and explains the history of the building and the works; folding stools are lent to visitors who want to sit during the tour. Private group tours can be arranged on request.
