Fotografiska Berlin: Tickets, Opening Hours, Exhibitions and Rooftop

Updated on October 15, 2026

Fotografiska Berlin is a museum of contemporary photography at Oranienburger Straße 54 in Mitte, in the former Kunsthaus Tacheles, a large historic building from the early 20th century. It is not a collection museum: it shows several temporary exhibitions at once over multiple floors, often monographs by renowned photographers or projects by contemporary artists. It is open every day from 10:00 to 23:00, which makes it one of the few Berlin museums you can visit in the evening. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours to see all the exhibitions, plus a drink or dinner if you stay on: the café-bar, the Verōnika restaurant and the Clara rooftop are part of the experience. It is a ten-minute walk from the New Synagogue and the Hackesche Höfe.

Highlights

The building on Oranienburger Straße

The building on Oranienburger Straße

The stone façade and its large entrance arch face one of the liveliest streets in Mitte. The building long housed the Tacheles, an artists' squat that became a symbol of post-Wall Berlin, before being renovated to house the museum.

The temporary exhibitions

The temporary exhibitions

There is no permanent collection: the programme changes several times a year. In October 2026 you can see Lauren Greenfield, "Social Studies" (until 12 January 2027), Thomas Billhardt, "Die Augen weit offen" (until 7 February 2027), Banz & Bowinkel, "COMPOSITIONS / DRIFT" (until 15 February 2027), as well as "The Anonymous Project by Lee Shulman: No Place Like Home" (until 1 November 2026) and Carola Lampe, "Tell Me What To See" (until 31 October 2026).

The Clara rooftop

The rooftop bar, Clara at Fotografiska Rooftop, opens Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00: a view over the rooftops of Mitte for an end-of-day drink.

The Verōnika restaurant

The museum restaurant serves from 18:00 (last seating 22:00); the café-bar, open from 8:00 on weekdays and 9:00 at weekends, is fine for a break without an entry ticket.

Practical info

Tips

  • A standard ticket costs €15; the reduced ticket is €10 (seniors aged 65 and over, students, ages 19-25, people with disabilities, unemployed visitors). Admission is announced as free for ages 0-18 during the "Social Studies" exhibition: confirm on the ticket page before coming with children. A guided tour with entry is offered at €19 (€14 reduced); it is also available in English. Prices and hours checked on the official website in October 2026. You can also buy your ticket in advance on GetYourGuide, useful to skip the queue at weekends. To avoid crowds, come on a weekday in the early afternoon or after 19:00; last entry is at 22:00. The building is wheelchair accessible, with gender-neutral toilets, a companion of a person who needs assistance enters free and service dogs are welcome; to reserve a wheelchair, email the museum before your visit.
