Teufelsberg: the abandoned listening station and its street art, visit and access

Updated on October 5, 2026

Teufelsberg, the "Devil's Mountain", is an artificial hill in western Berlin, in the Grunewald forest, about 120 metres high. It is made of the rubble of some 400,000 buildings destroyed in the Second World War, piled over an unfinished Nazi military school. During the Cold War the Americans built a listening station here, whose big white radomes monitored Eastern Bloc communications. Abandoned after the fall of the Wall, the station is now a ruined visitor site covered in graffiti and murals, with a panoramic terrace over the city. Admission is paid (€12 full price in October 2026); allow two to three hours, including the walk up.

Highlights

The radomes

The radomes

The large white domes housed the antennas of the American listening station, in which the British also took part, during the Cold War. Under the main dome the acoustics are striking: the slightest voice echoes for a long time.

The street art

The street art

Walls, stairways and building interiors are covered in murals and graffiti by artists from around the world, constantly renewed. The site presents itself as the largest street art gallery in Europe. A guided tour dedicated to street art is offered in addition to the standard visit.

The panoramic terrace and the towers

The panoramic terrace and the towers

Stairs climb to the top of the buildings, where the 360° view takes in the Grunewald forest, the Havel and, on a clear day, the towers of central Berlin. The walkways are rough: stay on the marked routes.

The "Declassified" exhibition

This exhibition on the history of the site, open daily from 11am, covers the building of the hill, the listening station and life at the site after 1989. A second exhibition, "Allied Forces in Berlin", is open Thursday to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.

Guided tours

The site offers several guided tours, including the "Mythos" tour, a street art tour and a flashlight tour. Times and prices of the tours change: check the official ticket office on teufelsberg-berlin.de.

How to get there

Teufelsseechaussee 10, 14193 Berlin (Westend). The nearest S-Bahn stations are Heerstraße and Grunewald, about 2 km away, roughly a 30-minute walk. There is no parking on the site: two free car parks exist, the Parkplatz Teufelsberg before the private road and the one at the end of the Teufelsseechaussee, about 10 minutes' walk from the site along the private road. Teufelsberg combines well with a walk in the Grunewald forest; for more views over the city, see our selection of viewpoints in Berlin.
