No price comparison can be trusted in advance: rates change with the date, the weekend and the season. Dorm or private room
- Mixed dorm: cheapest; check the number of beds (4 to 6 is calmer than 10 or 12).
- Women's dorm: usually €2 to €4 more.
- Private room: €70 to €120, worth it for two when a simple hotel costs barely more (see where to stay in Berlin on a small budget).
What to avoid
- A very cheap hostel far from a station: the saving disappears in transport.
- Party areas if you want to sleep: ask for a courtyard-side room.
