Otto Weidt Museum of the Workshop for the Blind: free entry and opening hours
The Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt is in the first courtyard at Rosenthaler Straße 39 (10178 Berlin), in the very premises where Otto Weidt ran a brush and broom workshop during the war. He employed blind and deaf workers, most of them Jewish, and did everything he could to protect them from deportation. The museum is part of the Gedenkstätte Stille Helden (memorial to the "silent heroes" who helped persecuted Jews). Admission is free. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00; closed 24 to 26 December, 31 December and 1 January.
Highlights

The workshop
The rooms recreate the brush workshop with its workbenches and machines; documents, photographs and testimonies tell of the workers' lives and their employer's courage.

The hiding place
At the back of the workshop, a concealed room served as a refuge for a Jewish family. The narrow recess can still be seen, which makes the story very concrete.
Guided tours
Free guided tours can be booked; groups of more than 15 people are only admitted as part of seminars or tours booked in advance.

Tips
- Free entry, no ticket needed: just go to the left-hand entrance of the first courtyard. The stairs up to the museum are very steep, which the museum flags as dangerous for visually impaired visitors; a lift serves the museum from the courtyard, and tactile floor markings guide blind or partially sighted visitors. There is no parking. Hours checked in October 2026. A paid guided tour may be offered on Berlin: Walking Tour of Holocaust Resistance & Hidden Heroes; this page contains a partner link: if you book, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you (the museum itself stays free). It is a good addition to the list of free museums in Berlin.
