RAW-Gelände: Friedrichshain's former railway repair yard

Updated on October 9, 2026

The RAW-Gelände (Revaler Straße 99, Friedrichshain) is a former Reichsbahn repair works, the German state railway's workshop, turned into one of Berlin's liveliest alternative culture venues. Among brick halls, graffiti-covered façades and rails still visible in the ground, you will find clubs, bars, a garden, artists' studios, sports halls and, every Sunday, a flea market. The site is a small district of its own, covered on foot in an hour or two; the courtyard is open to everyone, and only the clubs and some events charge entry.

Highlights

The halls and painted walls

The halls and painted walls

The original buildings, with their brick chimneys and large industrial façades, are covered in murals and graffiti that keep changing. Wander the lanes between the halls: it is one of the best places in Berlin to photograph street art and industrial architecture.

Clubs and nightlife

Clubs and nightlife

The black-and-white façade of Cassiopeia, one of the site's long-standing clubs, sets the tone. In the evening the RAW brings together clubs, concerts and open-air bars, mostly from summer to autumn. Queues and atmosphere vary from night to night; see our guide to Berlin at night.

Practical info

Tips

The RAW-Gelände flea market takes place every Sunday during the day, with free entry: clothes, home décor, designer pieces and street-food stalls. For the clubs, plan for the night: hours and prices change with each event, so check the venue's programme before coming. The area is lively at night: keep your belongings on you, and read our advice on safety in Berlin at night. For the streets around the site (Simon-Dach-Straße, Boxhagener Platz), see our guide to Friedrichshain; the East Side Gallery is about a twenty-minute walk away.

How to get there

S-Bahn and U-Bahn (U1) to Warschauer Straße, about 5 minutes' walk from the Revaler Straße entrance; tram M10 also stops at Warschauer Straße.

Opening hours

Best: Sunday or weekend evenings
The courtyard is open to all; hours vary by venue (cafés, galleries, clubs) and event, and the flea market takes place on Sundays
