Crowds and prices in February
Outside the festival, February stays quiet and cheap: museum queues are short and flights affordable. During the Berlinale, however, hotels around Potsdamer Platz and Mitte fill up and prices rise: book early. February 2027 events
Berlinale: 10 to 21 February 2027
The Berlin International Film Festival runs from 10 to 21 February 2027. For the first time it lasts one day longer than usual and adds two audience days, on 20 and 21 February. The awards ceremony is on Friday 19 February. The European Film Market runs from 9 to 16 February, for professionals only. Public screenings take place in several cinemas, mostly around Potsdamer Platz; ticket sales open a few days before the festival starts and popular screenings go fast. Everything is detailed in the Berlinale page.

February around town
There is no big popular event apart from the festival: take advantage to see museums without the crowds. For music, concerts and shows in Berlin and Berlin at night give addresses all year round.
What to pack
A warm windproof coat, wool layers, a hat, scarf, gloves and waterproof shoes with non-slip soles. If you go to the Berlinale, expect to queue outside: warm socks beat a gala outfit.
Ideas to stay warm
- Museum Island: the Museumsinsel with the Neues Museum, and the Humboldt Forum. The Museumspass pays off after a few visits.
- Cinema: outside the Berlinale, many cinemas show films in the original language with subtitles; see also films shot in Berlin.
- Coffee and cake: the food floors of KaDeWe or cafés and pastry shops in Berlin.
- The tropics in winter: Tropical Islands, about an hour by train, is heated all year.
- Rainy or snowy days: Berlin when it rains and the free activities.
What is closed or reduced
- Biergartens are still closed; the first reopen in March or April depending on the weather.
- The Berlin Zoo keeps winter hours: check the closing time.
- Shops are closed on Sunday: see Berlin on Sundays.
Getting around
The metro and S-Bahn are heated and reliable; in icy weather, keep a margin for trams and buses. During the Berlinale, lines to Potsdamer Platz are busy in the evening. See transport in Berlin.
