Source: German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst) climate averages for Berlin, consulted in October 2026. Morning frosts are still possible and the weather changes fast: a sunny day can be followed by a cold shower. The sun rises around 6:55am and sets around 5:55pm at the start of the month. On Sunday 28 March 2027, Germany switches to summer time: clocks go forward one hour, and the sun then sets around 7:30pm. For the next season, see Berlin in spring.

Crowds and prices in March

The first half of the month is quiet. The ITB travel trade fair, for professionals only, runs from 16 to 18 March 2027 at Messe Berlin: hotels are pricier and fuller on those days, especially in the west of the city. Easter, the weekend of 26 to 29 March, also draws German travellers. Our budget guide for a trip to Berlin details prices, and where to stay in Berlin helps you pick a neighbourhood.

Public holidays and events in March 2027

Monday 8 March: International Women's Day

8 March is a public holiday in Berlin (and in only one other state, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). In 2027 it falls on a Monday: shops and offices are closed, and the city hosts demonstrations during the day. Do your shopping the day before and check the opening hours of the museum you have in mind.

Easter: Good Friday 26 March to Monday 29 March 2027

Good Friday (26 March) and Easter Monday (29 March) are public holidays across Germany; Easter Sunday (28 March) is a Sunday. Shops and supermarkets are closed on these days; restaurants, cafés and most museums stay open. See Berlin on Sundays.

ITB Berlin: 16 to 18 March 2027

ITB is a trade fair: you cannot enter as a visitor, but it pushes up hotel prices and fills transport to the Messe.

What to pack

A warm windproof jacket, a sweater, waterproof shoes and a compact umbrella: March is changeable. Keep a hat and gloves for the morning. Dress in layers, as it can be mild in the sun and cold in the shade.

Ideas for days out

What is closed or reduced

  • Biergartens reopen gradually, depending on the weather; see Berlin biergartens.
  • Boats on the Spree usually resume tours in March or April: check the operator's timetable, see Spree cruises.
  • Shops are closed on Sundays and the public holidays above.

Getting around

Metro, S-Bahn, trams and buses run normally; see transport in Berlin. If you arrive by train, Paris to Berlin by train gives journey times and tickets.
