WelcomeCard or Museumspass: the short answer

The bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum

  • You want to see 3 or more major museums in 3 days: the Museumspass (€32).
  • You mainly want to get around and enjoy discounts (TV tower, cathedral, Madame Tussauds…): the standard WelcomeCard.
  • You want both: add up the Museumspass and transport tickets, or take a WelcomeCard with a museum option (from €62 for the Museum Island version).
  • You are staying on Museum Island: neither; the Museumsinsel ticket (€24) is enough.

Which pass for which stay

A 2-day weekend

The 48-hour WelcomeCard AB (€28.50) costs more than two 24-hour tickets (€22.40): it is only worth it with several paying partner sites. The Museumspass, valid for three days, is only worth it if you visit at least three museums. For a weekend of walks, memorials and parks, 24-hour tickets and the free activities are enough.

3 days built around museums

That is the Museumspass case. At €14, the usual admission to a major state museum, three museums come to €42: the pass (€32) pays for itself from the third. Add transport: three 24-hour AB tickets cost €33.60, so about €65.60 in all for the Museumspass and transport. The 72-hour WelcomeCard AB (€39.50) includes transport for less, but only gives discounts on museums: add up the admissions you plan to compare.

3 days built around popular sights

The WelcomeCard becomes interesting if you visit several partners: for example the TV Tower (25% off) and Berlin Cathedral (€11 instead of €15). Check the list in the app before buying: some visits, such as Berliner Unterwelten, are not covered.

A family

With the standard WelcomeCard, one adult takes up to three children aged 6 to 14 on public transport for free, which makes the card a good deal for a large family. For museums, under-18s enter state museums for free: the Museumspass is then only useful for the adults.

More than 4 days

For 5 or 6 days, the WelcomeCard costs €53.50 or €58.50 in AB, almost the price of the Deutschlandticket (€63 for a month), which also allows excursions by regional train: see our comparison AB ticket, ABC ticket or Deutschlandticket. In that case, a Museumspass for three days of museums complements either one well.

Pitfalls to know about

  • The Pergamonmuseum is closed (until 4 June 2027): do not include it in your calculation. The Museum Berggruen is closed too: see its page.
  • The three days of the Museumspass are consecutive: the first day counts even if you walk in at 4 pm.
  • State museums are closed on Mondays; others close on Tuesdays.
  • WelcomeCard discounts are not free admissions: add up what you really save.
