Source: Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), Berlin-Dahlem station, 1991-2020 normals consulted in October 2026. Averages hide swings: a heatwave can last several days, and a violent storm can break out late in the day. Keep an indoor idea in reserve, see what to do in Berlin when it rains. For the whole season, read Berlin in summer; the previous month is covered in what to do in Berlin in July.
Crowds and Prices in August
Berlin's summer school holidays end on 14 August 2027 (source: official holiday calendar): the first half of the month is still busy at the lakes and at family attractions, then the city calms down. Museums are open all week, and the month has no public holiday in Berlin. August is high season for accommodation: book early, especially around the big events. What's On in August
Long Night of Museums
The Lange Nacht der Museen is the night when Berlin's museums open from 6 pm to 2 am on a single ticket. The 2026 edition, the 44th, took place on Saturday 29 August, with 75 museums and more than 750 events (tours, readings, workshops, concerts), under the motto "Crime in Berlin". The ticket cost €15 in advance until 16 August (€12 reduced). Plan a route of just a few venues: shuttles help, but you cannot do everything in one night. The 2027 date is to be confirmed; the evening usually falls at the end of the month. To prepare your visits, see the best museums in Berlin and the Museumspass.
Tanz im August
The international contemporary dance festival Tanz im August, organised by HAU Hebbel am Ufer, held its 38th edition from 13 to 29 August 2026: 19 productions and 54 events at 11 venues. It suits curious audiences, and most dance performances need no German, but check the language of each evening.
ISTAF at the Olympic Stadium
The ISTAF athletics meeting took place on Sunday 30 August 2026 at the Olympic Stadium, with about 40,000 spectators expected. Check istaf.de for 2027 dates.

Musikfest Berlin
The Musikfest Berlin, organised by the Berliner Festspiele around the Philharmonie, began on 28 August in 2026 and ran until 23 September: see also what to do in Berlin in September.
What to Wear in August
- Light clothes, plus a sweater for evenings by the water.
- Swimsuit and towel for the lakes.
- Hat and sunscreen: the lawns of the Tempelhofer Feld offer almost no shade.
- A light rain jacket for storms.
- Mosquito repellent, useful near the water.
The Best Things to Do in August
- Lakes and lidos: the Wannsee beach, the Schlachtensee, the Müggelsee; see the lakes guide and the water quality published by LAGeSo.
- In the evening: a beer garden, an open-air concert or the nightlife.
- Markets: weekend markets in Berlin.
- With the family: the Spreepark and the ideas in Berlin with children.
- Parks: the Treptower Park and the Tiergarten.
