What to eat, what to avoid
| Dish | Gluten-free? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Currywurst | often yes (without the bun) | the sauce may contain flour |
| Döner | no | bread and sauce to check |
| Potatoes, asparagus, fish | yes in general | ask about cooking and breading |
| Bread and pastries | no | Berliner, pretzels and cakes contain wheat |
| Beer | no | wheat and barley contain it |
Where to buy
Supermarkets (Edeka, Rewe) and drugstores (dm, Rossmann) have a gluten-free aisle with bread, pasta and biscuits. Keep snacks for journeys and museums.
The right reflex
Announce your intolerance as you walk in, not when you order. For coeliacs, choose simple dishes and mention cross-contamination. For a guided meal, a Mitte food tour can adapt if you tell them when booking: see food tours in Berlin and what to eat in Berlin.
